Madhepura

The present Madhepura district had already got the status of subdivision on 09/05/1845 in which there were seven blocks. Saharsa district today was then the revenue circle of Madhepura at that time. When Saharsa became a district on 01/04/1954, Madhepura became its subdivision. Madhepura subdivision which had seven blocks at that time, was given the status of a district on 09/05/1981.On 21/05/83 Uda-kishunganj Block was upgraded and made a subdivision of Madhepura district in the name of Uda-kishunganj. Besides seven old blocks, four new blocks came in to existence in the year 1994. There were Gwalpara, Puraini, Bihariganj and Shankarpur. First three blocks come under uda-kishunganj subdivision and last one is under Madhepura subdivision. Later on two more new blocks were constituted in the name of Ghailar and Gamaharia, under Madhepura subdivision in 1999.

Madhepura district is surrounded by Araria and Supaul district in the north, Khagaria and Bhagalpur district in the south, Purnia district in the east and Saharsa district in the West.

It is situated in the Plains of River Koshi and located in the Northeastern part of Bihar at longitude between 25°. 34 to 26°.07’ and latitude between 86° .19’ to 87°.07’.

So far the Communication is concerned, this district is linked with meter gauge Rail of North Eastern Railway. The district is located on Katihar, Saharsa, Samastipur meter gauge Rail Section. In addition to Rail link it is connected with state H.Q.by road that starts from NH 31 at Maheshkhut and ends at Baijnathpur situated in between Madhepura and Saharsa link road at the distance of 14 KM from Madhepura.

Madhepura is also known for its political activities and is the hometown of one of the great crusaders of Backward Classes, Chairman of Backward Classes Commission and former Chief Minister of Bihar Late B.P.Mandal. Late Ras Bihari Lal Mandal,a Zamindar from Murho, father of B.P.Mandal, was one of the founder members of Indian National Congress from Bihar, a great freedom fighter who took on the might of British Raj directly and was slapped more than 125 cases against him by the British, got first anticipatory bail in this country from Calcutta High Court in !910s, was founder Of All India Gope Jatiya Mahasabha (Yadav Mahasabha) in 1910. Mr Suraj Yadav, a young member of this family, teaching at Delhi University, Spokesman of Nationalist Congress Party, is promising young leader at Madhepura.

    No doctors in emergency department also. My grandpa is waiting to get treated in emergency dept from morning, but there is no doctor available for last 5-6 hours. Govt should open some good hospitals in bihar.

    sorry to say nandani but there has been no contribution from raj bahadur keshave prasad manadl and family towards building this institution. the land was purchased from the railways for building this hospital

    Rai Bahadur Keshav Prasad Mandal was great personality and known magistrate of madhepura. he was a Zamindar & Magistrate. but always thought for social development. He contributed his land ,money and manpower to build this institution without others help. this premise was built under their grandson - Late Jawahar prasad mandal (Lawyer & Zamindar) and Jahllu babu observation. but nobody in family members took any advantage to join this school. only built for society. later school become government institution,but delicately to Girls only. Thanks to this family, who initiate girls education in this area.
